Last Year this anime was definitely my favourite despite being only being 11 episodes, and I know me and some of the Ani bloggers would say the same.

Without a furthur ado, I give you Yuukoku no Moriarty.

Synopsis

In the late 19th century, the British Empire has become a global power. Due to the strict class stratification, the average citizen has little chance of successfully rising up to the top, where the despicable nobility rules over them all.

William James Moriarty, the second son of the Moriarty household, is a young mathematics professor who has displayed great cunning and intellect since he was a child. Along with his brothers Albert and Louis, he lives the simple life of a noble. Outside of school, William is a well-known private consultant willing to solve the problems of anyone in need. However, his gentle demeanor belies his position as the head of a group prepared to wreak havoc in pursuit of its desire—a new world built from the ashes of the old.

Yuukoku no Moriarty puts a new spin on Arthur Conan Doyle’s original work by putting the spotlight on its main antagonist and exploring how he came to be the first and only “criminal consultant.”

My Opinion

It was only just recently as 2019 that we had a sherlock anime and fall last year we were introduced to Kabukichou sherlock that I had to say was so much fun to watch but I would have to say this Moriarty anime definitely surpassed it.

Within this 11 episode first season it has 4 episodes arcs all 2 episodes long and it was just enough to get the gist of the show. I and a few others are not happy with how many episodes we got, but it certainly gives us a good wait until April 2021.

Opening and Ending Music

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I haven’t spoken about the music for an anime in quite a while but I have to give applause for the opening and ending used in Moriarty.

Opening: “DYING WISH” by Tasuku Hatanaka (畠中祐)

Ending: “ALPHA” by STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION

Both of these openings are very cool but Alpha always gets my head dancing and I defiantly sing along, and I feel like we use Alpha for all the cool things that happen in the anime but with the opening ‘Dying wish’ we get the mystery that entails, it really sets the anime up right.

The Characters and their relationships

Rating: 5 out of 5.

William is believed to the middle sibling of the Moriarty’s or is he? William is very suspicious but for me this man is my favourite out of the whole cast, and it isn’t just because of his Gourgous red eyes and very regal mannor.

Yes, William is the main character for this anime since the title. He is very smart and cunning but doesn’t let it show until the moment he has to not that he has to hide it from his siblings Albert and Louis.

The Moriarty team

Characters starting from the left: Sebastian Moran, Louis, William, Albert, Fred

The Moriarty team are definitely full of surprises, If your a fan of Conan Doyal’s Sherlock Holmes everyone knows of Sebastian Moran and Morairty himself, but I have never known about Moriarty having siblings and this is what makes it so much better, this team is nothing short than perfect, mainly because Albert the Oldest and Leader of the Moriarty siblings handed William keys to a pretty nice kingdom and In return William vowed to change things for the better or so we think.

Now im not sure who this Fred kid is, but he comes in pretty handy when it comes to missions and has a very special ability. (Human ability)

Sherlock

We meet sherlock in episode 6 when he tried to impress women by guessing what people did for a living.

Sherlock and Moriarty

Sherlock guesses that Moriaty is a mathematician by the way he looks at the spiral staircase in front of him, of course he guesses right, and even Moriarty is impressed, at the end of episode 7 they speak before Moriarty leaves and explains the events of the episode and thinks some one was behind it all, and we all know he’s obviously right and Moriarty has to start being weary of the Detective Sherlock Holmes.

John Watson

Sherlock and John meet in episode 8 when Mrs Hudson tells sherlock he needs to help pay the rent, but with sherlock (in his early days) who so little cases has no money they try and find a lodger.

To celebrate the new friendship, Watson, Sherlock and mrs Hudson head to the local pub only for Sherlock to be arrested, just from this one case Sherlock and John become friends.

John and Sherlock

The animation

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The animation for Moriarty is nothing special, the animation is very much normal for anime produced in the last two years, but one mention that I do have to say was great was the colour of William’s eyes, such deep red, I always fell in love

My Faviroute episode!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

My faviroute episode of the 11 episodes has to be…

Episode 7

Even though episode 6 is the first part to this 2 episode arc, Episode 7 is far down the greatest episode of the whole series, I’m definitely not going to spoil anything because I want people to actually go and watch this fantastic anime.

Episode 6’s events leads up to episode 7 and it definitely shows the true nature of what Moriarty is capable of, at the end of the episode we see Sherlock’s great mind when he knows someone was behind the events on the boat ‘The Noatic’.

The Episode truly shows how much difference there was between the high class and the lower class back in the 19th century.

The Story

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The story gives us a very enlightening first episode, then for the next two episodes we get a very telling backstory and it basically or nearly tells us everything we need to know about Moriarty’s true intentions.

It definitely leads us up to the first arc on the ship ‘The Noahtic’ which is where Moriarty meets his match in Sherlock Holmes who Louis says ‘Moriarty considers sherlock his equal’ even though Louis (The youngest of the Moriarty siblings) isn’t too fond of his brothers adversary.

It terrifying to know what a human can do with a mind like William James Moriarty and I have to say this anime is a wonderful spin on Aruthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and they definatly did good with the voice actors.

Knowing about the sibling’s past brings everything into perspective, there is a moment in episode 10 when Sherlock and William meet again on a train, Sherlock is in a bad mood, but after recent events has figured out who William truly is but has no actual hard evidence against him, William crosses his leg, smirks and says to the detective

Just from this one line sends us into a frenzy (well I can speak for myself only 😉

Mycroft Holmes

Above is the cliffhanger where we see Sherlock’s older brother accepting a job from the queen.

This definitely makes us want the second series right now.
