Hello my wonderful readers!
This is the July edition of the Jon Spencer Showcase!! Hosted by yours truly
What exactly is it?
It’s a monthly unique event created by the lovely Jon Spencer Reviews, that brings together bloggers and other content providers from all around the internet. So I’m here to showcase the wonderful work everyone has submitted to me from the month of June. In truth, this is my very first time hosting and I feel very privileged to be hosting for the first time.
For July’s Showcase I submit my Review on Gangsta which I highly recommend checking it out!
But before I get into it, If you wanna check out last months showcase head over to Mechanical Anime review or read the post here: https://mechanicalanimereviews.com/2021/07/01/thejcs-jon-spencer-showcase-june-2021-edition/
Jon does a detailed look into the two new Netflix anime’s Yasuke and Trese. He reviews the shows and gives a detailed explanation of what he thinks the story is trying to tell us but then shares his concerns about the problems that the two shows have.
It is an interesting read because what he picks up on I wouldn’t have been able to spot, let alone connect the dots but that’s okay because he also explains how you’re able to spot the problems yourself.
Takamakijoker reviews the anime Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise, but I have to be truthful that the only Gundam anime I’ve watched is Iron Blood orphans which for an anime lover, I must apologize for having only watched one out of the many Gundam anime’s we’ve had for so long.
Takamaki Gives a detailed review on the Gundam anime and talks about all aspects, defiantly give it a read if you are interested in watching!
Josee the Tiger and the fish was released in Japan on Christmas day last year and it seems that Yu Alexius has already watched it, me on the other hand I will be watching it when It comes out in English Cinemas in August.
Unfortunately, It does contain spoilers (and is told to us within the title of the blog post) so please read at your discretion, If you have watched the film already then great go ahead and read this detailed review that even has a contents bit, highlighting the many topics he goes over in the review.
Shallow Dives reviews the anime Saga of Tanya the evil, which I was very interested in reading as I think I watched only two episodes of this anime and didn’t continue so I was very interested in hearing what they had to say.
This was a fantastic read and it doesn’t even do into a depth analysis of the show, he just shares his views on why the show is a great one (I must admit once I read this I put it on my list to re-watch)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash, A Review and Reflection on the First Act, Messages of Regression in Society by The Infinite Zenith
If you have ever read a blog post Infinite Zenith you will know what I’m talking about, They hosted #TheJCS in February and it was very extra but that’s what we love about them, they love blogging and this is why every blog post is so detailed.
Infinite Zenith has chosen to review Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash and reflect on the first act, at first they talk about the movie itself, then while watching the movie they talk about key moments and then at the end wraps it all up.
It was a great read
Chris over at Never argue with a fish reviewed Dorohedoro (Unfortunately I stopped watching this after 2 episodes) so reading this review was interesting to get a second opinion.
Chris gives a very interesting opinion on the show and after reading this review I defiantly share his concerns. Give this a read because I read a real genuine post and it was really interesting!
I can see from Crow’s world blog that he reviewed every single episode of the Fruits basket final season and It was interesting to get a second opinion on how he felt when watching the last episodes.
Crow gives us a quick summary of the episode, His favourite quote from the episode and what part of the episode made it so great to watch.
Tiger Anime writes about what makes a proper Isekai anime?
They have some very interesting Pointers and I very much agree with them!
my favourite Isekai anime’s have to be GATE and Knights and Magic
Everything is bad for you warns that this blog isn’t a repeat of what they have already written about the story itself, as they state they have blogged about the manga even before the anime came out.
They let us know the anime is very faithful to the manga and classes the anime as a romantic comedy as I read through the beginning of the piece it reminds me somewhat of Kaguya and Miyuki from Kaguya sama
Want to hear a faithful review on the anime, defiantly check out this post!
Everyone has their own preference of the anime they watch, it’s just as easy as knowing what your comfort food is, Nonplayer girls, talks about their comfort anime’s and categorizes them in a few categories
- The anime that got me into otakudom
- The one that really got me into otakudom
- The one to share
- the motivational one
- The one I’ll watch over and over
- the one that lead to the best friendship
If you are interested in which anime’s they picked head on over and check it out!
You have to love a good classic non spoiler review of a anime or a anime movie, Matt In the Hat has done exactly that and reviewed the anime Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.
This Lupin the Third anime is all about our girl Fujiko who is probably one of my favorite characters other than Goemon, so give it a read if you interested in knowing more!
I have to admit it took me to last minute to figure out which category this blog post went into, and in the end I ended up going with the most logical category.
Scott writes about How Watching Dear Brother Can Hurt You, it was a very interesting post to read and then I thought when aren’t his posts interesting to read!
Talking about whether its better dying free or living as a slave gets In Search of Number nine asking the question in the anime Galaxy Express.
Apparently it is recommended that you have watched this series in particular episodes 47 and 48.
Nora over at Allthejugoshiunite does a monthly blog, where she reads manga so we don’t have to, she gives us a review on the Manga Ron Kamonohashi and it only contains light spoilers which give us an incentive to read this review, if you are interested in what the manga has to offer.
I will defiantly be giving this a read after reading this great review.
Webtoon | Answer Me, My Prince — Sweet, Fluffy, and Classic Kind of Romance by black and yellow otaku gamers
Minty over at Black and Yellow Otaku gamers has submitted this webtoon review of Answer me, My prince.
It was a very interesting read as it is very detailed and long and you could defiantly tell she put a lot of effort into writing it, I love her dedication and it’s really worth reading what she has to say.
She gives us a list of what it’s good for and what she liked, it does contain Mild spoilers but do check it out 🙂
If you love a good BL manga look no further! Al has given us a recommendation and a review on the Manga Dick Fight Island.
While reviewing the manga she gives us a synopsis at the start and then gives her own opinion on the manga rather than an analytical one which I feel are the best types of reviews.
Blerdy Otaku talks about how she doesn’t like reading shojou manga, and an honest opinion, neither do I. Blerdy gives us a rundown on a Manga she recently just read called Yakuza Lover, and only halfway through this post I immediately had to read it!
I loved it and I read the current manga volumes in just half an hour!
Not that this gave me a good manga recommendation she also mentioned a few things about herself that I see in myself aha.
Celebrating Pride Month
As Many people know June was pride month and Matt goes over 5 Comic recommendations to read that are on the topics of the LGBTQ variety.
From the list, he gives us I have only read Seven Days but since going through this list I’m defiantly going to be giving the others a read and I recommend you do the same 😉
Nudity in anime, we all know about it, some of our favourite characters like to be naked or like to strip for the sake of being who they are.
Fred over at aunatural talks about Nudity and how it fits into anime culture but also our culture as well.
This post is well-structured and gives the LGBTQ+ community a powerful voice during the month dedicated to them.
Blerdy Otome cooperated with the community to give them the opportunity to answer questions on how they portray themselves in the gaming industry. The answers they gave are extremely intriguing, so make sure to read them!
Reading this post definitely gave me that feeling that I know exactly what their talking about in terms of ones sexuality, I have definitely struggled in the past couple of years and finally finding one term I am very clearly comfortable with.
In terms of support for our fellow bloggers, I would give this a read as strangely enough you may connect to it more than you realize.
Jack over at Animated Observations has been on a huge game kick as of lately, he recently bought the game Arcanium over on Steam for around 17 dollars which to me sounds like a very good price.
Jack gives a detailed low down on how he felt the game processed, he also gives us a picture of himself playing the game (on his twitch channel which I’ll link here https://www.twitch.tv/lmstorytella)
Defiantly give it a read if you’re interested in Gaming because he puts across some good pointers!
Sailor Otome’s post is about the Game Mr Love Queen Choice. My personally have played this game myself and very much enjoyed it and when the anime came out in summer 2020.
Sailor talks about the voice actor step down as Jonah Scott (a recent uprising voice actor in the dub universe) was recently fired as the voice of Victor just as he recently replaced Ben Diskin.
She touches on the decision made by the game producers and the aftermath that followed it. In my opinion if it Wasn’t for her writing this post I would have never known about this so It was a very interesting read!
King’s Heir: Rise to the Throne – A Stunningly Simple Yet Satisfying Hidden Object Gem – Video Game Review by biblionyan
Biblio Nyan does a interesting review of a steam game King’s Heir: Rise to the Throne.
They first talk about the game itself, when it was published who it was published by and at the end they give some key details about genre, platforms (where you can buy and play it) and what Language you can play or read subtitles in. They talk about what impressed them about the game, what let them down, we even get some screen grabs of the game.
If your interested in buying a new game on stream,I highly recommend you read this first before buying!
As you can guess from the title, Nepki gaming listed five franchises that could work well as a Battle Royale!
Not only do they try to be as varied as possible and they are some very interesting choices like assassins creed. For each choice, they answer a few questions
- Why do they think this franchise would work well
- How they think this game would work
The Almightly Backlog reviews the game Ni no Kuni ll: Revenant Kingdom.
I love that everyone’s writing and reviewing skills are different and The Almighty blog is no different. We are given images of the gameplay which is always a must, the more I read I got a vibe it was more an opinion review more than an analytical one.
The Gamer with Glasses gives his opinion on the game. They got to play Neo: The World Ends With You’s demo. Based on 90 minutes of gameplay, here are his opinions.
This review starts with contents which is always a good thing to have, he starts with the things he liked like the music, the battles etc. and also what he didn’t like
I love a good strategy game as much as the next person and so does Adventure rules.
Adventure rules talks about the games they are very excited about playing, the list includes
- Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp
- The Firaxis Marvel Rumor
- Dark Deity
- Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
- Project Triangle Strategy
So far out of all of the game reviews I have seen, streamer haven tops them all, I haven’t seen a well thought out blog before and It really shows when you give this a read.
Were given a short overview at the beginning along with some along with a rating system, I’d say if your looking for a really detailed review about a game, head over to Streamers Haven.
I totally understand what this feels like, Honestly I’ve been playing only animal crossing since I got my Nintendo switch lol
Frostilyte talks about the mental block and probably the mentality to start a new game, trust me when I got persona5 on my PS4 I couldn’t play anything else it was like it was consuming me.
maybe you have the same problem?
Much like streamers haven, Sweet n Spicy’s review of Dates and Wires is probably the most colorful of the two blog posts, and much like Streamers, they have a contents, a rating system and a very detailed review.
Sweet n Spicy have given analytical points including own preferences which is why this is probably my favorite game blog post this month.
Indietail talks about the game The longing, I kid you not, I tried leaving this review to the very last, not that it wasn’t any good, not at all!
Just that every time the creepy avatar picture kept on coming into my view it gave me the major creeps, The longing is a steam game which has a timer, integrated into the game which Indietail is not very fond of.
Read to find out more.
Another list blog post, WC Robinson talks about the 5 games from E3 that stood out to them most this year, this list includes
- Metroid Dread
- Death’s door
- The Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Hunt the Night
- A Plague Tale: Requiem
Tales of the aggronaut talks about anxiety within gamers and the more I read this post the more I understood the need for what they have created.
Ever feel like you’re alone and you want to participate in MMORPG games but have one one to play it with? well look no further.
Tales of the aggronaut has created a community for Final fantasy XIV gamers to join in and have people to play with that probably have the same anxiety’s.
Please give this a read if your interested!
Another community post!
The goal of this site is to create a resource that helps FFXIV role players find new potential RP connections.
Please give this a read if your interested!
Many different gamers I have seen different tastes in games and NekoJonez is no different.
Reviewing the game World’s end club by Nintendo and from this one review, World’s end club will probably be the next game i buy with my pay check lol
Does this have any introduction? K at the movies and my fellow anime bloggers collaborated on the worst 100 anime openings of all time.
Want to know what they chose? Then i suggest you watch and I honnestly had to agree with most of the choices.
Tye over at Blerd Senpai has been doing a podcast for a while now even though I’m don’t fully understand what the purpose of the podcast is (many apologies) It is quite interesting to listen to.
Tye does give us a very interesting piece of information at the beginning so make sure you give it listen!
I love reading books as much as the next person, I love watching tv and talking about it, here Time to loot has reviewed the book King of Ashes by Raymond E. Feist.
For this review they talk about the blurb and their thoughts
A very interesting blog post if I don’t say so myself, here I was about put in the Game category and then I began to read and it was a fanfic written by Games with Coffee.
I was very interested in reading this as I also like to write myself, not that I’d ever publish anything, It was a very interesting read and suggest you read it too 🙂
They’re not really talking about algae. — Dramatical Murder’s “Slip on the Pumps” by GoatBed (English Version) by Shoujo Thoughts
A very short blog post but nonetheless it was very interesting to read.
Shoujo Thoughts talks about the song “Slip on the Pumps” by GoatBed and the translation from Japanese to English.
If you’ve ever been interested in learning more about lyrics in our beloved anime music, defiantly give this a read!
Rose over at Wretched and Divine is a resident cosplayer and she has decided to show us how she made Oddish/Luffy’s Straw Hat.
unfortunately this blog post made no sense to me (No offense whatsoever)
But I’d say for what I was looking at was a character design sheet obviously in the title.
and that is it folks!
That is all from me Art of Anime this month, Keep and eye out for the next host Moya who will be hosting August’s JCS You can find her on twitter at: @The_Moyatorium or at her blog https://moyatorium.wordpress.com/
